Competition Rules.

Merit Competitions

1.There will be a number of print and projected image merit competitions held during the club season, these will be shown in the programme. Where entries permit there will be two sections: Entries in all competitions must be numbered 1 to 4 to enable reduction if the entry is too great.

 INTERMEDIATE, AND ADVANCED.

2. Entries will only be accepted from paid up members and must be submitted to the Competition Secretary at least one week before the competition date.

3. Entrants will self assess which section they wish to enter. The Intermediate Section is the natural home for most members, some of whom may be working towards joining the Advanced Section. The Internal Competitions Secretary is empowered to re-designate an entrants` work if he feels it is entered in an inappropriate section. Successful members in the Intermediate section may be encouraged by the committee to compete in the advanced section. In the event of a dispute relating to merit competitions a ruling by the committee of the club will be final.

4. Each member can enter up to four colour prints and four monochrome prints and four projected images in each relevant competition. No item of work can be entered more than twice. All entries will score 1 point for entering. If an entry scores HC or better then it cannot be entered in any further Merit Competitions. All entries must have the authors` name, title of work and section in which it is entered clearly stated.

5. Scoring will be 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Highly Commended, however at the sole discretion of the judge and where the quality of work is of a sufficiently high standard a number of entries may be commended. Points will be awarded as follows:

                                Commended                           1 Point

The number of commended places is left to the judge’s discretion with a maximum of  6.

6. Whilst prints can be any size the maximum mount size is 20" x 16".

7.Projected images must be, jpeg 1024x768 pixels, clearly marked with your name.

8.A print produced from a digital image or a digital image produced from a print original which have been entered in a seasons Merit Competition cannot be entered in the relevant print or digital image sections in that season although they may be entered in subsequent seasons. To ensure there is no confusion it is strongly suggested that clearly differing work be entered in the various sections of the Merit Competitions.

9.Original images must have been taken using the photographic process. Members must own the copyright of all the constituent parts of an image.

The Challenge Cup Competition

 1  This competition is for a panel of four related prints, which can be displayed on one or more mounts. Whilst prints can be any size the maximum mount size is 20”x 16”.

2.  Entrants may enter up to three panels.

3. Placings will be 1st, 2nd, 3rd, H/C and Commended, however at the sole discretion of the judge and where the quality of work is of a sufficiently high standard a number of entries may be commended The number of commended places is left to the judge’s discretion, with a maximum of 6.

4.  Prints must be numbered and include author’s name, panel title and a display plan.

5  Work must not have been entered in previous Challenge Cup competitions.

6  Original images must have been taken using the photographic process. Members must own the copyright of all the constituent parts of an image.

The Landscape Competition

 

1  There are two sections, Print and Projected Image

2  Placings will be 1st, 2nd, 3rd, H/C and Commended. The number of commended places is left to the judge’s discretion, with a maximum of 6. 

3.All work must be new, not having been entered in any previous club competition.

4.Participants may submit up to four pieces of work per section, numbered I to 4 Dependant on entry size numbers 3 & 4 may not be used.

5.Projected images must be jpeg format 1024x768 pixels, and the maximum print mount size is 20”x 16”.

6.All entries must be clearly marked with authors name, title of the work and number.

7. Original images must have been taken using the photographic process. Members must own the copyright of all the constituent parts of an image.

The Natural History Competition

 

1 The competition will be for prints and projected images jpeg 1024x768 pixels.

2 Placing will be 1st, 2nd, 3rd, H/C and Commended. The number of commended places is left to the judge’s discretion, with a maximum of 6.

4. Participants may each submit up to four pieces of work, numbered 1 to 4.Dependant on entry size, numbers 3 & 4 may not be used.

5. All work must not have been entered in previous Natural History competitions.

6  All entries must be clearly marked with authors name and the title should, where possible, include the scientific name. Cute’ or  ‘Humorous’ titles will be marked down.

7. Any natural subject can be entered as Natural History. This includes Zoology, Meteorology, geology and Botany etc.

8  If the subject is wildlife then it should be shown in it’s natural surroundings. Wild and free subjects should be marked ‘W’.

9  Original images must have been taken using the photographic process. Members must own the copyright of all the constituent parts of an image.

Finals Night Competitions.

1. Finals Night will consist of entries from those who have participated in at least 2 of the years Merit competitions, in the section or sections in which they have entered. Entries may be work already entered in the current years competitions, and can include winning submissions. Alternatively, members may wish to produce new work for the Finals Night competition. Participants may each submit up to four pieces of work per section. Work to be numbered 1 to 4, dependant on entry size 3 & 4 may not be used.

2. Scoring will be 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Highly Commended, however at the sole discretion of the judge and where the quality of work is of a sufficiently high standard, a number of entries may be commended to a maximum of 6

3.  Maximum print mount size 20” x16”. Projected images must be jpeg 1024x768pixels

4.All entries must be clearly marked with authors name and the title of the work.

5. A print produced from a slide original or a slide produced from a print original which has been entered in one of a seasons Finals Night Competitions cannot be entered in the other Finals Night competition in that season although it may be entered in a subsequent season .To ensure there is no confusion it is strongly suggested that clearly differing work be entered in the various sections of Finals Night Competitions.

6.Original images must have been taken using the photographic process. Members must own copyright of all constituent parts of an image. For all competitions an image that is placed 1,2 or 3 must be retired and cannot be used again in any other format.

The Bernard Fox Memorial Trophy

 

This trophy will be awarded to the Photographer of the Year. Points from all competitions, prints and slides will be added together and the highest number of points will decide the winner. Final placings in the Merit competitions will be awarded points as per other annual competitions. In the event of a tie the person with the highest number of first places will be deemed the winner.
